My daughter is looking for a Laptop ready for university later this year and she has about £500 to spend, do you folks know of any good deals. She'll mainly want it for college work, watching DVD's and playing Warcraft :)

Hi - I'm not sure how much processor power etc you need to play Warcraft but I bought a Dell for that sort of money 18mths ago and its never let me down - I'd just find the best you can for £500 from one of the big names like Dell HP Toshiba Sony etc & make sure you get some warranty with it (3yrs minimum if you want it to last thru Uni)
Regards ... Paul ;)
we got a flyer in today from Dell , XP3500+, DVDR, 1GB ram, onboard graphics (which might be an issue), 15" widescreen for £299 + Vat

I bought a Refurbed Packard Bell off ebay 6 months go, £500. 3.2GHz P4, with 1 GB ram, 256mb Graphics, 60gb hard drive, wireless 17 inch screen etc. Been absolutley superb.
Let me check what I can get my hands on tomorrow - had some quite good deals pop in to my Inbox from various suppliers recently.

There will always be people who have bad experiences with any brand whether its laptops desktops cameras cars blah blah blah - I went for Dell as my employers have thousands of the things so they must be doing something right! That said I would buy any of the main brands if the deal was right in terms of the spec you want & in your case the warranty - sounds like markp might be able to source something for you from what he said ... Paul ;)
Try looking at the Apple refurb store. You can pick up a MacBook for £600, a bit over budget maybe, but it would be ideal for uni :)
Sometimes they have them for under £550, but not just now! Though the one at £600 does look good.
You can check out the Dell specials at http://www.dmxdimension.com/ as posted here a few months ago.
i just bought an acer aspire 5633WLMI, it has 120gig harddrive 1 gig of memory and intel core 2 duo, i got it from ebuyer for £527, only had it a week but am well pleased with it, they are also doing a buy now pay november 07 if thats any help, infact they do that with everything they sell over £350.

Ebay shop, so got warranty with it too.
On the subject of Dell, the company i used to work for always bought them, but they aren't as good as people say they are, we were always having problems with them.
