View Full Version : yet another bag thread
I am sure this has been done to death, but I am struggling due to the overwhelming number of bags out there.
I am flying to SA in March for a wedding and will be obviously taking the photo stuff (will fit in a quick safari, coast, penguins etc..). I normally use a Crumpler 7500 Muffin top which snuggly takes my gear, but has no room for anything else.
Given the current issues with cabin luggage, I obviously need to be able to carry everything + a book etc.. in 1 bag for the flight, then need to be able to carry the thing around on a daily basis without looking too much like a tog with a mug me sign over my head or carrying something that weights a ton.
Need to be able to fit
Canon 450 (no grip)
Canon 15-85
Canon 70-300 IS USM
ex 430 II speedlight
12" netbook
space for flight junk... (book, ipod etc..)
I am wondering about taking a tripod but I guess that could travel in the suitcase.
Anybody recommend anything that fits the above requirement?
Thanks in advance

honestly the tenba messenger, i've had a fair few bags and it only really falls down with if you're hiking because it's a one strap messenger bag
apart from that it should carry everything you need and is designed exceptionally well
i carry a d300 with 17-55, 50mm, 80-200, 105 macro, 10-20 and speedlight with room in the front/back pockets for laptops/memory cards books etc and i've only got the small messenger :)

I took a quick look at this in Jessops, it weights a ton before you put anything in it...
The Tenbo looks interesting, anybody selling them in the UK ?
Any other suggestions?
Cheers

I found this link.
laptop and photo bag comparison (http://goeurope.about.com/od/travelphotography/tp/photo_packs.htm)
Interesting reading...
Tamrac 3385 looks good, anybody got one of these?
Tenba Messenger looks smaller and only weighs 1kg
Lowepro 100 is very heavy
Anything else to check?
(added as reply as I didn't realise edit doesn't bump)

WHy not a bag to get your stuff to SA, and then a different one when you get there? OK means taking an empty bag, but may give your more flexibility?

Good suggestion I was thinking the same...
I wonder if I could get a standard rucksack and put my muffintop in it....
Worth a look I guess...
Might be cheaper as well....
hmmm
Thought provoking...

seriously, wouldn't touch anything else now unless i had shedloads of kit then it'd be a billingham/tamrac of some variety

My Tenba Messenger in Chocolate (really like the colour) and in large size arrived this morning.. (postman rang the bell at 07:42 gross).
I ordered from Teamwork yesterday at around 11 so well done them for getting it out the door so nicely packaged the same day.
Bag appears to be really nicely designed and made, it looks like it will give me enough space for my stuff (going to try in a mo) so thanks all for all the advice
Now have to wait for my 15-85 and hope that all fits as well :)
Thanks
