Might sound daft to you, but what is an XMP file. I am accumilating these files after I have converted from RAW - or so I think! Any ideas please?

It's the sidecar file that contains all the adjustments you have made to the RAW during editing.

Aha! - but do I need it and if so, how do I open it?

As I said, it stores any adjustments you may have made in your RAW convertor. If you delete it, you will lose the settings and be left with the unprocessed RAW.

You don''t open it directly; it is read by the RAW convertor in tandem with the RAW file.
