Well having purchased my first slr just under a year ago (Nikon D40) I decided to splash my christmas money and treat myself.
Picked up a Canon 400d & Kit Lens & Tamron 55-200 for a really good price & have also ordered a nifty fifty from Kerso (hope its worth the hype!)

Congratulations!
I don't think you'll regret it one bit. My 400D has served me well for nearly 2 years now and it won't be until may that I get a 7D. I'll stil keep the 400D as my 2nd body as I don't think I could let it go now.

You certainly will not regret this - I sold all my film slr stuff about 5 years ago and have existed on a series of digital compacts, well if you call a G10 a compact as that's the last :) then I decided I had to move back and what a difference, why didn't I do it sooner? Now I need some glass :(
I love my 400D and even though I now have a 50D the old 400 always gets an outing. You wont regret it.

You wont regret it. The 400D is a lovely camera though i prefer something a bit bigger for my sausage fingers.
The 50mm f1.8 is a cracking lens for the money and is perfect for portrait work.
Best decision you will ever make leaving nikon :)

Is that for when he sells Nikon? :D
Welcome to the Canon world, you wont regret it. I started with a 400D, and have just moved to a 7D via a 50D. I sold the 400 and wish I hadnt, its a good little camera.

Welcome from a fellow Canonian/Nikonian:naughty:
Out of interest, why did you change over?
I've no axe to grind but I'm just curious as most people stick with one brand once they've committed themselves either way.

It is the best decision that you will ever make ;)
My first DSLR was a 400D, moved to a 40D (still got), then a 5D MkII. All of them have been great cameras and I would NEVER consider using anything else!
Enjoy it, I'm sure you will.

I wanted a canon 400d originally however but could not afford it & when I was looking last year a Nikon D40 came up reasonably priced so I went for that.
Now I'm in the canon world though I don't think I'll be going back!
Enjoy, and get some pictures posted soon .

I have a 400d and upgraded to the 50d both amazing camera's and easy to use.
As for the nifty fifty you wont regret it,guaranteed.
I seem to have followed the same path as many here - started with a 400D and then moved up to the 50D.
Enjoyed the 400D immensely & it was a fantastic entry to the world of DSLR.
