I took this pic using an old 35mm camera - didn't quite manage to focus out the fencing *** - can anyone tell me how to improve this or even how to remove the background without loosing all the detail around the mane?
Thanks

THat's a damned good pic Lors but you'd lost his eyes!

All the detail was there it just needed bringing up. All I did was drew a mask around each eye, raised the gamma level, sharpened, and added a subtle catchlight to the eyes with a dab of white paint. Then a dab with the soften brush to soften the catchlights.
Losing that background without losing the detail in the mane is painstaking slow work. I wouldn't worry about it, it's sufficiently out of focus to have been taken anywhere. I'm not trying to put you off - that job would be a serious challenge for anyone. Something to tackle a little later on though.
He's perhaps a bit too red do you think? - but I'll leave you to decide according to your own taste.
yer i agree with CT, its a good shot and the background isnt distracting at all, well done and certainly keep at it!
