View Full Version : Landscape lens - Canon 17-40L?
Hi All,
THinking of getting a new lens for landscapes on my 40D. Was looking at the 17-40L f4 (from Kerso) to replace my current sigma 17-200 OS walkabout.
What are peoples experience of the 17-40 (any sample l/s images)
Will it be a noticeable improvement over the sigma
cheers
Ian
The 17-40 is a super landscape lens. I cant comment relating to the 17-200 except to say that the Canon L lenses are built extremely well and of very high quality.
One thing to think about is that it wont be "super wide" on your 40D due to the 1.6 crop sensor size. A really cool lens for 1.6 crop cameras is the Sigma 10-20 which is very wide, and sharp enough to produce some cracking shots.
Here are a couple of pics with the 17-40 on a 1D (1.3x crop):

Cheers Tobers
My sigma is an 18-200 OS - it was early and dark when typing that :)
Some cracking shots there - just wondering if the Canon is worth the extra £
Would agree on the L comment - my 100-400 L is the dog's kahunas
