View Full Version : Lens hood with filter fitted
Hi, im trying to find a lens hood to fit my canon 50mm 1.8. I have a 52mm hood that fits fine without a filter fitted, but then that means i cant use the skylight filter i have.
The filter i have is hoya hmc 52mm skylight (1B).
What am i doing wrong? or is one of the items im trying to use is wrong?
Thank you for any advice

The skylight SHOULD have a 58mm thread on it to take your hood!
i just checked it, and its not for some reason. I think it might be the hood i have, but it fits fine without the filter on!

Have you screwed the filter into the lens first, THEN tried to screw your hood to that? It is very unusual for a filter NOT to have a secondary thread!

I have just bought a hood today and this is how it fits to the camera.
Skylight filter to lens then hood to skylight filter.

At the end of the day Raj, the skylight filter is basically there to protect the front element of the lens,it does not alter the image very much ,just makes it a tiny tiny bit warmer.
So with the hood fitted ,that will be enough to protect the lens.
It is just a pain taking it off and putting it back on all the time.....
