Might be worth trying to order!

In fact, I've placed and order to see what they do.

Hmmm, I'm tempted to give it a go but this is from their T&C's:

Accepting orders and security

"When you place an order we will treat it as an offer to buy. We will send an e-mail (first e-mail) to confirm receipt. If we accept your order, we will send you a confirmation e-mail (second e-mail) with your order number, at which point we make a legal contract with you. However, we will be entitled to refuse to accept your order if we feel it necessary, in which case we will e-mail you as soon as we can to let you know."

Damn..... I just noticed after ordering that it doesn't specify for what camera I want it for. Wonder if you just need an adaptor, they are probably selling the adaptor for £500 ;)

Even if they were it would still be bargain ;)
It's an obvious typo and no one is going to get the lens for £36.99

rgb tech guys are good blokes...this is clearly an error '.' in the wrong place. plonkers for ordering thinking you'd get something for it. but you never know, they might offer you a bit off another item as a token gesture...?

rgb tech guys are good blokes...

You know I kinda disagree with this... I placed a Pre-order for a 1DmkIII with them, that they cancelled... this kinda annoyed the hell out of me, ive emailed them about 4 times in the last month about this and they havent yet replied to me... I think thats pretty damn poor customer service. The only way they will get any money off me is if they can hold the £2499 price tag and Kerso cannot match it.

BTW, i didnt place an order for this item, as I know they wont honour it... they wouldnt honour the 1dmkIII order and that wasnt even a pricing error.

can't say why they didn't honour a pre-order on that. I actually called them up when the 30D was due to be released about this time last year rather than emailed them. after a decent chat I put in an order...I was one of the first 5 or so on a pre-orders list and would have got it in the first batch but I knew someone who wanted one more (and was the next on the list) so passed it up, that and the fact I got my 1d at about the same time... I stand by my opinions, they are reasonable people. call them as its far easier to deal with people that way than email in many cases. I'm sure there's a reasonable explaination for what happened too.

NO DICE...DOH

Hi

Thanks for your interest in our cock-up.

The sigma rep was in the shop on Wednesday and we decided to change the price of the 800mm, the problem is that if I add a decimal point into our new database, it decides this means a fraction of a penny rather than pence. Mistakes happen, but in this case at least you were not charged.

I have cancelled the order, and I’m sure you will no longer want the lens at the normal price.

Thanks again, and if you have any questions please call 01642 228182.

I have seen dozens of missprice items like this before (even ordered a few)

Most companies now have t&c's to let them out of honest mistakes.

This was an honest mistake and not a genuine special offer. Taking legal action will get you nowhere.

if i walk into a shop and something is advertised at the wrong price they have to sell it too me at the price.

T&C's mean nothing if they are breaking consumer law.
Where would you go to find this out??

ppp
25-03-2007, 20:58
The Price is Right!
Under law, a retailer is entitled to decide the price he wants to charge for his goods.

The price on display is simply what the law calls an invitation to treat. In the same way you don't have to buy goods from anyone, a retailer is under no obligation to sell you anything.

You cannot insist that a shop sells you anything at a marked price, whether or not they have made a mistake.

The law does not allow prices to be fixed and, contrary to common belief, goods are not subject to price controls.

What are RRP and MRRP?

The recommended retail price (RRP) and manufacturer's recommended retail price (MRRP) are suggested prices or price guidelines. Retailers can undercut these prices if they wish, so you should shop around for a bargain.

It is illegal for shops to sell things at more than their advertised price. Our advice would be that the business should have a checking system to prevent pricing errors and ensure that any identified are quickly corrected.

As long as shops clearly show the price of goods, they are under no obligation to price each item individually.

If you think a shop is deliberately trying to mislead you, or are unhappy at the way a shop advertises its prices, you should call your nearest Trading Standards Service, which has powers to investigate.

Special rules

In some cases, special pricing rules must be observed.

Restaurants, pubs, and cafes which serve food have to display a price-list and tell you whether there is a service charge, and pubs have to list the price of various drinks.

Petrol stations must show the unit price of petrol at the pump.

All retailers must price their goods to include VAT. This rule does not apply to business sales or the price of services, although if services are sold to consumers and the price is quoted exclusive of VAT, it must be made clear that VAT will be added.

It is also against the law for a shop to pretend that goods have been reduced from a higher price to a lower one.

If you order goods, and later the shop says the price has gone up, you should only have to pay the price you saw when you ordered, unless you were told there might be an increase. To be certain, ensure you get the price in writing.

**In this case although they have advertised the price they state in the T&C that you are making an offer to buy, and you do not place an order until they confirm**

Just found the t&c's.

"When you place an order we will treat it as an offer to buy. We will send an e-mail (first e-mail) to confirm receipt. If we accept your order, we will send you a confirmation e-mail (second e-mail) with your order number, at which point we make a legal contract with you. They did not break any consumer law. They made a genuine mistake.

Yes, even without the T&Cs they have no obligation to sell. 'ppp's post above pretty much covers it.
