Looking for a macro lense for my Canon 350D. I so far have the kit lense and a sigma 18-200mm.
My budget is around £300 which might make my decision for me. Willing to consider second hand, if they are available.
Any pointers / recommentations would be great!
Sigma 105mm or Tamron 90mm I would think. Could get either new for your budget. :)
Yup. that would be my advice as well. :)
Have a look at the new Sigma 70mm f2.8 macro which is sharper than a really sharp thing apparently - I have one on order with Kerso & its well within your budget - the ones mentioned already, especially the Tamron, have a huge following & would keep you further from your subject (I wanted the 70mm as I was replacing my nifty fifty & 105mm with one lens)
Paul ;)
I've the Sigma 105. It is a great lens for !Q, but very slow to focus. Barrel extends about 2"... slowly.
Not sure if the 70mm PB quotes is any better, but the nifty 50 compared to the 105 is like a well sprung greyhound in comparison.

Hi,
Try Kerso via these forums as he can do the Canon 100mm F2.8 Macro for around £300, on a par with the Tamron and better than the Sigma but much faster AF and the barrel doesn't extend and scare off wee beasties, but remember and budget for a hood at about £21 too although can make a free paper one to cut costs.
Mike.
There has been a few threads recently on macro lenses.
Have a read of this (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=19345) :)
