Lovely birds, and great captures.

When I used to live in Alston, on top of the Pennines, there used to be dozens of them, and lots of grouse and red legged partridges in our garden. It was in the midst of some of the best game shooting moors in England.

I hate to admit it, but my trusty old 20 guage used to provide more than a few for our pot!

Well done. It was traditional with us to have a brace of Grouse on the 11th aug. Dont know why, been better off chewing heather!
No 2 pheasant shot is spot on.

Being a complete phillistine, I think the best way to eat game birds, is freshly shot.

Once hung and smelly, as most seem to like them, they seem to me to taste as bad as they smell - rank:thumbsdown:

Cooked slowly in the oven, a freshly shot pheasant/grouse taste not unlike chicken, and are delicious. Sadly, I no longer shoot, so I can't afford them any more.

To be perfectly honest though, I only used to eat them because they were free, and I had two kiddies to bring up on a Police salary. I'd rather eat chicken or turkey, they taste as good if not better, and they are much less fuss. Best of all, they come ready plucked!

Ok now I'm just jealous. I will get a decent pheasant shot before I leave. I have a quite a few who feed on the bugs in my garden but evertime I get the camera to my eye off they go... Grrrr.
