Visited this excellent venue for the first time today. Couldn't believe how vast it is! Anyway, here are some shots....

Lapwing I think?

I have no idea what this is....

Lovely selection Weggy ... and it is certainly a lovely reserve to visit ...

Lapwing is correct ... or Peewit as it used to be known because of its call ... :D

The flock of birds are not too clear on my screen I'm afraid ... ... but I think they're probably Gulls of some description ...

Pied Wagtail is the next B&W bird ... ;)

Followed by a Meadow Pipit if I'm not mistaken ... ;)

And the naughty birdies are Shanks ... better known as Redshanks I believe ... rude innit ... :D

I find myself following & agreeing with the Green Man again.

That's what I thought when I took the shot, but when I zoom in, the beaks clearly are long, thin and curve downwards....

Any others you want to change your mind on?!

With the above info on the beaks I had another look. Possibly Curlew.

Nice set of shots, I really like the angle of your second Lapwing shot, beautiful colouring on their wings. :)

Yep, had a look on google, and I agree with you.... Curlew beak curves down towards the ground, where an Avocet's curves upwards...

This is a minefield :bang:

Just take your time. I have been studying the ways of nature for longer than I care to think about & there is always something to learn. Main thing is enjoy & if you are stuck just ask.

But then you probably wouldn't get Curlew in a flock such as that ... certainly not at Elmley methinx ...

Any chance of flicking up your zoomed shot Weggy for a closer look maybe ...

Oh I'm enjoying it... no question about that!

Strange thing is, I've never really been an outdoor person... but now I'm hooked, enjoying the new environments I'm seeing and loving the fresh air :D

Godwits ... :D

Still difficult to judge though ... not sure whether Bar-Tailed or Black-Tailed from those pics ... need to see more of their tails perhaps ...

Also possibly one or two Curlew maybe as there seems to be one of those that has a de-curved beak reminiscent of this species and it appears bigger than the others ...
