Look at the the magnification specs. The 100mm f2.8 Macro lens has a 1x magnification, the 17-85 has 0.2x magnification.

It's not a macro lens!

You can get as close as you like... it'll just be a blurry mess :D

One cheap option is to buy a set of macro filters. Can get some pretty good results with em.

Still as Susane said.. nice shot ***
