Start by asking your house insurers for an all risks quote. Usually much cheaper that way.

And keep away from E & L.
Probably best if you do a search on here and grab a cuppa. A fair bit to read...
Kev.
I am with Aaduki as I know quite a few on here are.. I used to be with www.photoguard.co.uk and am probably going back to them in april as I prefer the control panel for the account when swapping gear about:)
Both companies offer liability cover which is why most use them instead of house cover...
I dont know many that have claimed..so its hard to reccomend on actual service

Forgot to sa. I'm with :http://www.imaginginsurance.co.uk/Photographers_Insurance.html
Claimed once and they were brilliant. Cheque came within about 5 days if I remember correctly.

I'm with Aaduki too, now in my 2nd year and had no need to make a claim.
As previous poster says you only know how good they are when you have to make a claim.
With Aaduki they ask for details of everything over £1000, and 2nd hand gear?? Also they cover you for Worldwide travel >60 days for no extra charge.

If you are not using your camera commercially or for payment, then:
any liability cover you require will be provided by the Personal Liability section of your household insurance.
your household policy will more than likely cover your camera gear (check sum insured limits) - however, you need to check if this includes accidental damage and whether there are any limitations on the theft cover.
You may find you have the cover already.

How much is everyone paying for their insurance?
I just added accidental outside of the home, and its gone up to £20.50 a month.
Photoguard is a quite popular one. But as said above check if your house insurance will cover it.
My household policy says there is a limit (of £1500) per single item, but try as I might to get them to put in writing that a camera bag with 6 items is not regarded as a single item is like pulling teeth, they just refuse to put in writing and just say 'read the policy'. I have no desire to find out when I claim that a body and a lens is one single item and as it was worth £2500 but insured for £1500 they will only pay 15/25th of £1500 as well (as happened to a friend of mine).
So, be very carefull about the wording, I'm looking to get a seperate policy that lists each item and insures on that basis, so aaduki or photguard (thanks Kipax) may be the answer.

aw thats a shame.,... stick with where I am then.. I used to like the ability to go in and list your equipment and make changes whenever needed.... phone/email is a pain ... oh well... thanks for the heads up :)
Yeh same, was a great system - been meaning to add my 7D and take off my 50D but haven't got round to it yet :bonk:

is that pro cover of amateur?
It only costs me that for all my pro gear (£15k worth) and my computer gear with aaduki

Is that for equipment only you refer to Gary? I have all my gear covered on the house policy but Public Liability Ins with PhotoGuard.

I upped my household all risks cover to an amount that would replace all my kit, far cheaper than any quote I had from a specialist insurer.
On asking the same question as you did re "single item" my broker had to go and confirm their advice but it turned out the insurer regards items that can be bought separately as "single items", so a body, a lens, a flash are all separate, and yes this was confirmed in writing.
I have been assured that as long as a single item does not exceed £1500 and the total is not more than my cover then I will be OK. Do watch out for the "not covered in a car" exclusion.

Does anyone know of any specific equipment insurance that covers hotel rooms? Most of them do IF there's signs of a break in but if the cleaner comes in and swipes your gear then you're on your own.

avoid photoguard
Can you explain why?
I went to their site and it quoted me something like £60 a year, don't know how this compares to other Co's?

My house insurance covers my kit if its stolen from home but not when i'm out and about. It's a shame there isn't an insurance that just covers for accidental damage and for when we're out and about.
