View Full Version : Simon
I met Simon as I walked on a public footpath through a farmyard on the Bowland Fells. The sound as I opened a gate to walk up the hillside brought him to his stable door. How do I know his name? It's engraved on a metal sign above his head!

Aww thats great, Tony.
For me, the lovely old-fashioned stable door and wall is as much an integral part of the picture as Simon.
Great shot!
Thanks Janice. He was a very accommodating subject too. He kept staring at me as I took shots, then I said, "Turn to the side Simon" - and he did!!! I think this is the first photograph of a horse that I've taken in 35 years of owning an SLR. I must do it again :) .

Lovely Tony, lovely.
Does anyone know what the metal constructs practical purpose is? It seems to be in order to keep his wandering head in the middle, but why? :)
Thanks Hoodi. I wondered about the metal frame too. It's clearly designed for a purpose, but quite what that is - well, I don't know. Perhaps someone into horses can enlighten us.

This is lovely. The textures in the door and wall are really good and he is not overexposed in the slightest.....Brilliant!

Some horses 'weave' when in a stable (move their heads from side to side) and this is considered a vice in some parts of the equestrian world, the grate is to prevent this.
Hope this helps.

Weaving is concidered bad because it puts a strain on joints and tendons and causes abnormal wear to shoes or hooves.

Thanks PhotoStar. Thanks too for the info on "weaving" Hacker and Hypnotic - that's something I knew nothing about.

Lovely :)
As Janice said up there, the stable door really adds to that
Really good shot. Well composed and saturated. :)
