I got a Canon 1D MkIV last week & used it for the first time yesterday when the Hertfordshire Hurricanes took on the Southampton Stags, beating them 23-0.

This is the first time I've ever used a 1D series camera & I'm loving it

All shots taken on the 1D MkIV with 600mm f4L IS.

These are nice shots, the only thing I would say is that you've missed the top of the players helmet in 2.

Don't see much of this sport so thanks!

Thanks,

I've added the ISO data now, although to be fair, my standard processing rund the shots through Noiseware as well as resizing, adding a border & sharpening on a Photoshop Action so I just processed these quickly last night, they're not out of camera as such.

I used shutter priority with auto ISO yesterday.

I love 1 and 2. I'm not that bothered that the top of the helmet is cropped. The dof is excellent. 3,4, & 5 loose it a bit with me, but I'm a sucker for the close up action.

I'm curious, where do you shoot from for Football? These look mainly side on, is there method behind this? I don't know much about football.

These shots are either from the endzone or 30-40 yards ahead of the action down the side line. It's not really practical to shoot side on with a 600mm lens as you can only fit half a body in the shot

Very nice - that 600 f/4 certainly provides excellent subject isolation.
