View Full Version : Point Me In The Right Direction
I'd really appreciate some advice on buying a new camera. It's mainly for my tabletop studio so that I can photograph my finished jewellery.
I'm not hot on settings so it has to be pretty easy to operate. I've seen amazing food adverts shot with a Sony Cybershot is this worthy of consideration?
I was thinking just under £300.
I've also tried without success to track down a black acrylic platform (found plenty clear ones).

Not sure on the camera side to be honest but for the acrylic stuff is this the sort of thing you need?

Have a look at the Olympus SP550, it has a huge zoom range, will close focus down to 1cm in macro mode and has image stabilisation. Comes in about £280-290 I think.

Nearly!
The one I'm looking for is raised slightly and is extremely reflective, thanks for looking anyway.

Wow! That's a nice camera. I've got an Olympus which I keep in my bag for that unexpected opportunity and it's a great camera.
A definite contender. Thanks!
re the black acrylic, why not gloss black vinyl on a roll? http://www.mdpsupplies.co.uk/productcat.asp?parentcatname=24in%20Gloss%20Vinyl&parentcat=4

Good stand by but I eventually tracked down the risers. I found a UK supplier for Dod's link but the prices were very high. I eventually found a set of three (new) on Ebay for £5.99
Also saw a pair of flood lamps on Ebay for £59, cheapest I've come across so far so all in all a successful night.
