I currently have a Tamron 28-300 and have used for about 8 months. I was planning to replace it with a Canon 70-200 and I am not sure if it's a good idea.
My concern is that am I compromising on a much wider 28 of Tamron t a 70 of Canon. Also on the flip side, am I compromising on 300 of Tamron to 200 of Canon.
Can someone also please explain the difference between a Canon 70-200 L2.8 & L4 and with or without IS on the Lens.
Many thank beforehand. :)

Chouglez,
I think the main difference between the F2.8 and F4 is mostly down to size and weight and the 2.8 needing less light to work well obviously but it's alot heavier & bulkier than the F4!! ;)
I think the IS speaks for itself and doesn't need much explaining.
The image quality on the F4 & F2.8 lenses is tack sharp, I love the internal focussing that these lenses have (i.e. the lens stays the same length), and the USM focussing it stupidly quick!!
I'll say this now, I have the F4 (non IS) version and I love it, I'd love to have been able to afford an IS version - but I was in the throws of consoldating my lenses - so I couldn't afford it:(
As for your points regarding replacing the 28-300mm, I'd say that the Tamron represents (from what I've read) a good 'walkaround' lens - and that something like a 70-200mm is a better specialist zoom lens, especially if used in conjunction with a teleconvertor :)
So I'd say they complement each other rather than one replacing the other - as the superiour IQ of the f4 or F2.8 would be worth making use of for the 'longer' shots :) Also the IQ of the Tamrom is probably variable along the focal length - it's constant throughout the focal length of the 70-200mm's :)
Just my tuppence worth! :)
Matt
What wide angle lens do you have that would partner the 70-200?

10-20 Sigma
24-105 Canon
got the focal length loss in the canon there then, with a 1.4 tc you almost at the 300mm.
I have just got the canon 70-200mm a quick test against the Sigma 50-500mm is pretty impressive the TC i couldnt notice any loss. First test for the canon this weekend tho.

If I m understanding correctly, if I fit a 1.4 TC on 24-105 then I should be able to get upto 300mm ??
105 x 1.4 = 147
200 x 1.4 = 280mm
