When the weather gets a bit better I am hoping to get out to some tracks to do some motorsport photography. Of both cars and bikes. Was just wondering what lens/lenses I would need for this?

At the moment I have the following:
Minolta 50mm
Sigma 28-70mm
Tamron 28-200mm 3.8-5.6
Tamron 70-300mm 4-5.6
Sigma 10-20mm 4-5.6

Thanks

Most circuits you are likely to need 300mm of reach from the spectator areas, so the longest of your zooms.

I use my 70-300vr at Oulton Park although I often shoot around the 200mm mark. Depends of your circuit really, as to how close you can get to the track

ok, any other advice you could give me on shooting? Will be the first time I've given this ago?

Thanks

You've already got the lenses you'll need, unless you want to start spending big bucks.

For bikes, you need more reach than cars - 300mm probably won't give you the reach you need depending on the circuit. Maybe consider a 50-500 or 150-500. Or if you can stretch to it, a 120-300 and TC's. They come up pretty regularly for sale and usually go for half what you'll pay new.

I used my Sigma (Bigma) 50-500mm last year with decent results...
This year's glass I've got for the trackside is a Nikon 70-300vr (II), roll on the first outing (BTCC Media Day at Brands on March 23rd) :D

ok thanks will have to just give it ago and see how it goes and if i need the extra reach it will give me the excuse to buy the 500mm ive wanted for a while lol.

Thanks Again.
