Nikon F-Mount lens compatiblity

Out of curiosity...

Besides the usual non-OEM lens brands available, e.g. Tamron, Tokina, Sigma, etc. What other new or used glass out there directly fits the modern Nikon cropped DSLR range without modification, i.e. the D90 and D300? I've heard that some Fuji and Voigtländer lenses are compatible but it's unclear if CPU-enabled features (such as AF, Metering, aperture etc) are present when these lenses are fitted... :thinking:

Anything F-mount basically. The Voigtlander SLIIs (20/3.5, 40/2, 58/1.4 and upcoming 90/3.5) are F-mount with CPU contacts to allow metering on any Nikon DSLR. The Zeiss ZF.2 lenses also include CPU contacts, but the older ZF lenses lack the contacts so will only meter on bodies like the D200 and up (D300, D3, etc). Voigtlander and Zeiss F-mount lenses are manual focus only. Schneider do one (or more?) tilt shift lens in F-mount.

Old Nikon glass will work with the above proviso on CPU contacts and cheaper bodies (i.e. no metering). AI and AI-S lenses will mount on any body, whilst non-AI lenses will only mount of the cheapest bodies (D40, D40x, D60, maybe D3000) unless you get them modified to AI spec.

Well there are odd cases I'm sure I've missed (invasive fisheyes for one), and I skipped Angenieux (video lenses basically). There are a few mount conversions possible (e.g. some Leica->Nikon), but the flange->sensor distance on F-mount tends to cost you focusing to infinity with most conversions.

thats interesting ,,i wonder what the difference is in the bodies that allows them to be fitted to the d40 etc. i have an fm and it will take pre ai lenses ,but only after a small metal lever has been lifted out of the way .as Nick , i looked on the nikonians site .
