Went climbing in Snowdonia a couple of weeks ago. Interesting trying to balance photography with climbing needs. Having the right climbing gear had to take priority over what camera equipment I wanted to take (not that I have much!). Also I wanted the camera to be easily accessible so we didn't have to stop, unpack a rucksack and then repack every time i wanted a photo. In the End I opted for a large hipbag from Millets (14.99) that was big enough to hold the 300D (with battery grip), my Sigma lens (in its own case) a couple of filters and a lens cleaning pen. It fitted nicely under my rucksack and it made getting to the camera much easier. And with a little extra foam padding and a dry bag the camera was quite safe. Sadly the weather was largely against me over the two days we were up there, got quite a few okay shots of the routes we took but the opportunities for 'proper' photography were limited, time also had a big factor in this as well.

First one is from Llyn Llydaw the large lake in the Snowdon Horseshoe. This was nearing the end of the first day and was the first real bit of blue sky we'd had since early morning. Unfortunately the sun was directly behind Snowdon otherwise I could have got some stunning shots of Snowdon with a fair bit of snow on it peak. Instead I settled for this one.

Weather was completely miserable the nextday. We went up a Mountain called Y Garn (near Tryfan for those that know the area) it was very over cast, cloud base was at about 600m on and off rain and heavy snow on the peak. Visibility was about 50 meters in the cloud so as you can imagine it was almost pointless taking the camera. ANyway I did and got a shot of one of the many water falls in the area. Hardly original I know but have always liked that type of photography and wanted to give it a go. I had no tripod so I firmly clamped the camera to a bridge railing with my hands and used the timer to take the shot. Not too bad considering.

A worthwhile exercise though. Learnt a lot for next time I go climbing.

Steep has it, Easter Island!
The second one is very nice too! May have been worthwhile shooting in portrait as well. Just a thought.
