things stopping me buy one:

I'd have to sell three of my fav lenses

sigma 10-20
tamron 17-55
sigma 30 1.4

It doesn't do 1080p 24fps yet

I've only had the 7d for about 4 months and i really like it, just still find myself wanting the 5d though

Why do you want 5d?

I want one because I take portraits mainly and really want to get into landscape. I understand the dynamic range from a full frame sensor makes landscape photography unparalleled by a crop.

I've been really impressed with the portrait photography taken on a 5d and I guess this is also down to the larger sensor

Plus I always want what I don't have

Well if your answer was wildlife and sports I would say just use the 7d:D

Buy one - I just got a Halifax credit card as they are offering 0% interest on purchases for the first 12 months.... 7D will sell no problem, so you only have to cover about £50 a month for a year :)

I already have a halifax credit card!

Ok, so what I'm gonna do is wait till the firmware update comes out that offers 24p video. If I still want one at that point I'll have the money to sell my 7d and add those funds and buy the 5d.

I want a 5D MkIII, so I have decided to skip the MkII completely and hang on. The main reason is the AF, in the MkII its no better than the MkI.

My only other option was to move to Nikon and buy a D700, but I can wait another 18 months and my 5D still does what it needs to do

Probably not for another 18 months, my 5D can hang on till then :)

I would think autumn this year (2 year lifecycle) as D700 is getting makeover. It should inherit 7D autofocus as well. If this materialises I am going to get rid of 1Ds2 and 40D.

But if you NEED mk2 now go and get it.
Crop cameras are pretty decent; I can't see any miracles in 1Ds2 over 40D apart from a working AI-SERVO implementation. Sharpness depends on glass and focusing, and DR - mostly on exposure and postprocessing.
