Are paper backdrops the best or Material ones? I have been offered either but don't really know which one would be better.

Having tried both, personally I prefer paper because I don't have to iron it or worry so much about marks (just tear it off!) - but it's a lot harder to lug around if you need to take it to locations. And you need to buy more if you get through the roll whereas theoretically material would last longer.

depends on your intended purpose really

paper is fair heavy and long, but I really like its look

material is light and folds but can be a PITA

some people love vinyl for its survivability when drinks are spilt on it

proper cyc walls are lovely in the studio too

material is dead light but a pain frankly. Probably ok if you buy fairly heavyweight stuff and only shoot plain white or black, wouldn't ever want to shoot grey or colours on it.

Paper's nice, but consumable, though the costs aren't too bad, and it's not as heavy as vinyl.

Vinyl is real nice but very heavy, and I find I sometimes get a slight 'V' shape as the centre sags a bit. Think I've fixed it, and a nonissue if shooting on black of white though. Search 'vinyl' on here, 7m of awesome grade white vinyl cost me £80 from tony beal (who usually supply the sides of lorries!)

Cyc...I'd kill for ;)

Lastolite Hilite - Simple to set up and use. You don't need so much space either!

You just need the right lighting. 2 lights are required to evenly light the background and the vinyl floor (if you get that) needs a light too.

It's a great peice of kit though.
