Just trying something new. Went to the filter menu to get the Extract tool, and it's greyed out. Any idea how I activate it?

could it be because your image is in 16 bit? go image, mode the change to 8 bit and see if it changes.

Am I the only one annoyed that so much of CS2 still only works in 8bit?
There was such a fanfare about either cs or cs2 being 16 bit - cs3 has 32 bit capabilities but only partially.

There was such a fanfare about either cs or cs2 being 16 bit - cs3 has 32 bit capabilities but only partially.
After effects is the same, it has 32bpc capability but the amount of filters is restricted. There does seem to more available than in photoshop, but after effects is using much lower video resolutions so maybe hardware being able to cope with the added data is a factor.
