Silverstone test day !!! :)
Usual comments/critique welcome ! :)
Great shot Ian.
Have you got any details on these test days, I wouldn't mind going to one.
Do you have access to all of the track or are you limited to where you can go?
Ta
Matt

Thanks Matt :)
I will put a couple more up once i cropped them, that one has only been sharpened a little and cropped !
Check this site out Matt http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/racecalendar/default.asp
You only get access to the Luffield complex unfortunately, but you can get right down to the fence, as there are no marshals present, best of all its free entry ! :)
Next one is early June for 3 days ! :)

Yeah unfortunately, natures flashbulb wasnt very co-operative ! :(
I will have a look in Photoshop to see if i can do anything about it !

Ian, you can.
Goto> layers> New Adjustment Layer> Levels, a box will open click ok.
Now you should have the levels window.
In the levels window select the black point picker (looks like a eye dropper on the right of the levels window) and click it on the inside of one of the tyres/darkest point. Then with the white point picker click on the brightest white part of the car.
Now with the grey picker click on the tarmac. Click ok to finish.
If your not happy with the result just delete the new layer you've just created, then try again.
Once your satisfied flatten the layer.
Thanks Matt, will give it a go, never tried that before ! :)

Lens was 75-300 1:4.5-5.6 mk3 USM, i sooooo want a 100-400 now ! lol
If you stand in the right places you could probably get reasonable pics with the 200, this was taken at pretty much full out on the lens as well !!!
Because its a test day they let you get right to the fence, so you can shoot through the wire rather than keep getting it in the frame, although i still managed to ruin some nice pics with the fence :(

I think you'd struggle. To put it in perpsective I walked along the canal towpath the other day and kept coming across the odd duck or two on the water. They always swam to the opposite side of the canal on my approach - no doubt they get some aggro from the yobs and local kids so they're very wary. Just at that distance I couldn't get anything like decent shots with just over 140mm (effectively).

cool,
thanks for the advice,
but i suppose my 200mm lens is effectivly 300mm allowing for the 1.5x for the nikon
and i suppose taking all my pix in 6.1 meg NEF will alow me to crop closer in PS , as the ED lens is nice n sharp

Hmm thats just made me think ! Dangerous i know ;) LOL ! My 75-300 is effectively a 120-480 Lens on the 20D !!!!
All of my pics were taken at pretty much full zoom ! There was a lad there with a canon dslr (didnt spot the model) with what looked like a 170-500 Sigma lens ! I should have gone over and asked what it was like really ! lol
I used to have the Sigma 170-500 on my Pentax film camera, got some great shots at the British super bikes.
Tamron do a similar lens which is Di rated for digital.
It would be interesting to find out how both these lenses perform on a digital camera.

Yes i agree Matt !
I was mistaken ! it was the Sigma 50-500mm F4-6.3 EX APO lens this guy had ! just looked at the pics and that is what he had !
A lot of journalists use that lens because of its range.
I don't know how it fairs for sharpness though.

Yeah, is why despite everything i am still drawn to the 100-400 IS USM L series ! All the reviews i have seen it out performs pretty much everything ! Just found this on the lens performance site link !

The only thing wrong with the 100-400 is the weight.
Image quality is exceptional.
