EOS utility on a netbook

Anyone managed to install and use the EOS utility on a netbook?

I'm getting 'screen resolution too low' :'(

Hi Jim,

You will have trouble... especially on the little 8.9in or 10in netbooks. You'll also find that DPP won't work either. You need a minimum resolution of 1024x768 to work and most of the netbooks run their screens at 1024x600 :)

I have an 11.6in Acer Aspire One that's got a screen resolution of 1366x768 so that works fine... It even handles CS4 without too much fuss.

Have experienced the same (1024x600 not big enough), but have not found a solution. I think I read somewhere that someone may have found a fix, but could be wrong. Hopefully someone will answer here....

I have downloaded FastStone onto my netbook so that I can at least view or convert my RAW files and use the netbook as a backup if needed, but the desktop is reserved for main download and editing duties.

I have done that and it works ok but it no worky unless connected to the larger monitor. I want to use it outside.

That was quite often doable in laptops of the 90s but most of them don't do it anymore.

Yes, it is possible, I've done it, but no it's not worth doing....

You can set screen resolution above native, then the software will install and run, but its barely useable.

I have an Acer Ferrari netbook and that screen resolution is 1024x768 and that runs DPP and EOS, including Lightroom completely fine :)

So it could be a case of lower screen resolutions

For XP netbooks:

Under Advanced options in the screen Settings menu, there's a monitor tab.

It contains a checkbox that says "hide modes that monitor cannot display" Uncheck this box and you will then have all resolutions available to you.

Sorry, should have said it's windows 7 and 1024x600 is the only choice.

I haven't seen Windows 7 yet, but I would imagine it will be the same as XP, you'll probably find the same setting I mentioned is now buried away somewhere. Basically, you will need to find a Windows 7 equivalent to "hide modes this monitor cannot display" option.

Yes the box is already there and it's unchecked.

I did know about the advanced settings but I thought you mabey knew some secret trick :)
