View Full Version : EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM AF Lens?
Is this a good lens to have? I need something to give me some decent zoom with IS. Is this the best for the money?
It's a good lens - sharp, light weight and the IS makes it very useable at 300mm :)
 Good to know.. I'm learning!
Just dont fall for the 75-300 IS USM its older brother. It is worse in lots of respects.
I'll bare that in mind, cheers Paul ;)
I've had one for about 4 / 5 months, Yeah I like it though I do find it a" little soft at the far end" but no problem really Some of the early ones did have a bit of an issue when in portrait mode These has a 0 or 1 as the third digit of the serial number. So just make sure that you are not buying old stock, and as Paul says the 75-300 is a lot cheaper but no where near as good from what I could find out when I was looking in this direction
Reliable review here. (http://www.photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/canon_70300_456is/index.htm)
The killer quote from the review is:
"So in terms of optical quality the EF 70-300mm IS can be almost described as a hidden Canon L lens"
You can't get better for the money IMHO
 Thanks for the warning on that Cobra! That's a pretty damn good review eh Grendel ;)
Now I just have to decide where to get it from. Do I risk ebay, or Jessop's and the like? lol. That is if no one has one to sell me on here of course.
Kerso! The man is a legend round these parts. If you haven't heard of him, he runs an ebay store (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/FLASH-CAMERA)but will always do a better deal if you email him kerso1123@msn.com or PM him through the forums (he's a member here) :) HTH :)
 Thank you so much for linking me up to him. I tried in vein to find a link for his store last week
