Quick question about charging Canon batteries...

Is it OK for the battery to be left in the charger overnight?

I know some batteries don;t like being left in a charger once charged and these do seem to charge pretty quickly.

I was hoping to take the one out that's already charged and leave the other in over night but not sure if that is going to be detrimental to the battery, any ideas?

I've usually been told that you shouldn't leave a battery longer than it needs to, it can apparently damage the battery :thinking:

Some chargers have auto power off sort of gubbins, which would work, but I don't know if the Canon chargers have it

i put 4 canon bp511's on the night before and event, and have 2 or 3 ready to go already. like to get 5 hours kip minimum, so they're on for 5 hours if not more....still get over 1000 Large quality Jpegs out of one!

depends on your battery and charger.

dslr batteries, you'll be fine, the chargers are 'smart'.

Cheap old naff AA chargers etc you do sometimes need to time manually.

you should be fine ...modern charger switch to trickle charging once the battery's are charged to prevent damage to the charger and battery's

knighthawk is right, with modern chargers you'll be fine. I often leave my NiMH or Nikon batteries in the charger overnight. In fact I make it a habit to do this with a new battery as it is often recommended that you give them 8 - 16 hours the first time you charge them.

my canon batteries from my 50D and my 400D had been charged for over night and longer. Never had a problem with either charger or batteries and this was for both origanl and 3rd party batteries.

I find that Canon's own Bp511 take longer to charge, than the copies that can be picked up in 7dayshop.com, and only cost about £7. No need to leave these in overnight.
