We have a family nesting in our back garden, it's interesting to watch their activity. No way will the parents return to the nest unless they have 'scouted' the area first for suspicious beings, i.e people or pets etc.

This I assume is the male, doing his routine check before returning to the nest, simple and maybe boring; but I hope you like.

Nothing 'just' or 'boring' about Blackbirds! The male here is my favourite bird in the garden. He's first in the garden of a morning, and the last to leave in the evening. He's quite tolerant about us being out in the garden with him too... can't say that about any of the others!

That's a great shot IMO

Blackbirds are wonderful to watch and probably more tolerant than you think.

We had a couple build a nest on the car tyre. This was no good firstly we needed to use the car and secondly next doors cat would have had a field day.

So we reluctantly moved the nest. She had unfortunately already laid. Blooming quick work.

We moved it into the corner pagoda just outside our patio doors and within 15minutes the female was back sitting on her eggs. We didn't overly intrude but she was quite happy for us to watch and keep an eye on her.

It was all in vain unfortunately as magpies raided the nest a couple of weeks later in the early hours.
I didn't hear the racket until it was too late, it really upset me as we had got quite attached.

They did rebuild a nest elsewhere in the garden and produced a chick which they were quite happy for us to watch.

Great story Andrea :) - this is the second year running they have nested in the same place, so I assume we have them for good which is brilliant!

Thanks to everyone for looking and commenting, much appreciate, glad you all like!

Good capture, Blackbirds are a welcome visitor to our garden. You can always tell when there is a cat or other predator in the garden as the blackbird makes so much noise. I actually saw one dive bombing a cat the other day.

I'm glad you like Mike, I shot RAW so tried to make sure I got everything as clsoe to real-life as possible :)

Lovely shot

Although I haven't heard it yet this year, for the past two summers we have a blackbird that whistles 'Star Wars Imperial March'. When I first heard it, I thought naah couldn't be, then another member of the family heard it too, so I wasn't cracking up!
They certainly do go crazy at the cats, especially when they are after their young too. :)
