Got £250 to spend on a new (second hand though) lens to fit my canon 1000d.

Looking at the lower end of focal length so from about 18 to no more that 90. (must be at least 50)

What would you guys recommend?

Cheers

A Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 or Sigma 18-50 f/2.8 Macro, both 2nd hand

Prime or zoom? 17mm-85mm SH should be in your price range?

Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Sigma 24-70mm f2.8, your choice of focal length :bonk:

these are tempting due the the low F#.

I had the 17-85mm that came from a kit, but only used it once or twice. It is really slow, making images blurry when using indoors without a flash. It is not a big step up from 18-55mm. I personally like the sigma 24-70mm over the tamron just because of the build, but there seem to be quite a lot of back/front focusing issues around.

I had the Canon 17-85mm and I thought that the 17-85mm range, USM and IS were lovely but I couldn't live with the distortion at the wide end.
