Thinking about adding to my camera equipment by purchasing the new Panasonic HDC-HS60EB-K camcorder , the price is around £400.

I was wondering if there is any dos/don'ts and what to watch out for hints and tips members can give me . The price is about all I can afford so thats the region I am looking at.

To save replying to all and any posts each time can I thank you in advance for your replies.

You could upgrade to D300s and have video that way with your existing lenses. There are addons on sale to make video recording more comfortable, including various grips, etc.

Definately not a D300s. I want to keep my Nikon D300 as a stills camera and have a seperate movie one. In my opinion Nikon and other camera manufactures have made the biggest error in photographic history trying to combine the two.

the grips and accessories for shooting with a video SLR cost more than the SLRs themselves.

They are not designed for making home movies with, and the rigs used use follow focus for manually focussing the lens with. Great for filmmaking, not good for home videos. It's not a massive error trying to combine the two, it's just a different use to normal camcorders.

Eventually they'll put the video functionality of a 5dmk2 inside a canon pro camcorder body, with EF mount on the front, and release a few motorized lenses, and we'll ALL be happy ^_^
looks like RED are gonna beat them to it though...

but yeah, OP, buy a camcorder rather than video slr ;)
