I had a Canon RS-60 E3 for my 400D- am I right to assumt it has the wrong jack to use with my 40D now? What is the best option for my 40D, I did prefer wired for reliability but tbh I think I would lean towards a wireless one now..!
Recomendations?

RF-602. Wireless and reliable (and it's a flash trigger!) :)

I think you're right - xxxD series cameras have a jack plug and all other Canons use a 3-pin jobbie. Also, 40D doesn't have the IR remote sensor that many Canons do, which is a very neat way of doing it without plugging anything in.
Yongnuo RF-602 works great, but you need to get the camera right connector cord with it (not usually supplied).

I Got mine off FlashinThePan off here and he kindly provided the correct cable for my 40D at no extra charge. It works great as a flash trigger and camera remote!

get it from where I did and you get the lead
get it from where I did and you get the lead
Is that place a secret then? ;)
I think FITP supplies the lead, if you ask for one. That's where I got mine.

Ok just looked at a pic of one, so how exactly are they used? 1 part fits under a flash (ETTL too???) and the other, and the leads etc...
Certainly seem popular enough!

That sounds like it's in flash trigger mode.
For camera tiggering, you plug a lead into the receiver and the other end into the camera's remote socket. You can slip the receiver into the hot-shoe for convenience, but that doesn't do anything.
Fire it by pressing the button on the little transmitter unit.
I bought a cheap wireless remote for my 350D from a chinese Ebay seller, works fine, I need to get one to fit my 7D now.

I have a few different remote, the canon RC1 and the canon 603 I think it is? the wired trigger but the best is the RF 602 such a versatile device, flash trigger, remote trigger you can even play and have it remote triggering another camera shutter when you press the shutter on another body, I suppose with 2 receivers you could remote fire 2 cameras I will have a play when the 450D comes back later, aghh no I can't I only have 1 cable from the receiver to the xxxD jack.
