Thats cos he was Turkish (or something) and is also the patron saint of a good few other countries. He was a harlot and the dragon was robbed!

Tis true fair Damsel - even the Spanish have him as a Saint and you can't be trusting those scurvy knaves.

I think he joined up with the English during the Crusades - odd since he was Moorish / Muslim / deffo not a Henry

OOh yes Happy St Georges Day to all the thoroughbred English ... erm, should there be such a thing

Actually, I think it is rather sad ... if this were any other country, we'd all have crosses painted on our faces & be dancing with babies on our shoulders in the streets tonight.

I can guarentee you 100% I wouldnt be doing that no matter what country I was from! To be honest I quite like the British attitude...I really don't see the reason for celebrating the fact that I am British, its just who I am. Could never cope with the attitude (or at least the sterotypical one) of the flag and country American...I just don't get it! its a bit of land someone once claimed and put a border around - anywho! Happy thingybob to whoever :p

Start asscoiating it with massive amounts of beer and a day off, though, and I'm a Georgite

I like the American attitude of patriotism, if only for that great communal feeling of 'belonging', of being a part of something, of feeling that you are all part of the same community. To be proud of that.

Besides, its a good excuse for a party.

Thoroughbred English? Arent we all immigrants anyway? :p

Im with Marcel ... tis a good way to bring the communities together and have good old p*** up.
In Italy you only have to sneeze and its cause for celebration, I wish it were the same here.
Celebrating 'one's Englishness' is as good a cause as any to me! :D

Even if it is a rather large gathering of cups of tea, and an orgy of cucumber sarnies :D

So just what *do* we do today? In Liverpool to celebrate the re-opening of St Georges Hall they had Bollywood dancers. Ya know, the traditional English type... riiiiiight.

And a Happy St Georges Day to you Janice (sorry I was to busy celebrating yesterday and have only just logged in!) Well done for bringing the subject up  We decorate the outside of our building every year with the Cross of St George flags, balloons and things and we are probably the only one that does here in LUTON!! (I wonder why!!) If you want to be more prepared for next year visit http://www.stgeorgesday.com/home. You can also join the campaign for a Bank Holiday (now that got all you foreigners interested didn't it!! )
