View Full Version : D3 - in camera levels & curves?

Guys,
I have a specific tweak I want to carry out on the BLUE CHANNEL of my D3. Is there any way to access such a setting? Ideally, I can add a custom curve and save it to my in camera profile.
Alternatively, any ideas on how to reduce the yellows in my photo, again, in camera?
Regards,
Gary.

cant help with tweaking the channels Gary but have noticed a very slight cast with my D3 too (just read your thread in people+portraits). Which lens have you tested this with? I'd assumed it was due the characteristics of the 24-70 and 70-200 - my 85mm f1.4 is much cooler...

70-200 mainly...almost exclusively in fact....

be worth comparing with an older lens, 50mm f1.8 or similar, see if the cast is still there before you start tweaking too much...

Thing is, I'm not going to change lenses - it's perfect for the way I am shooting, so if it is a lens issue - I'm going to have to tweak the tweaky bits ! :D

The Nikon 24-70 certainly makes blues very errrm blue.
I rather like it, but some I know don't.
Probably easiest to fix in PP with a predefined action if you think its something you want to correct all the time, or alternatively play with the slider as you see fit for each shot.
Shooting RAW I doubt if you can do much in camera - if you were shooting jpg's you could probably tweak a picture control
Gary have a read of the following

Hya,
Just a side note really - if you use Capture NX to view your RAW files, they appear exactly as in camera JPEGS would....its how I currently do it....so if a JPEG fix is available in camera, it will work on my raw files....
Thanks for the link fox, and all the replies - off to do some reading :)

I just save a colour profile in ACR for each lens I own...for critical work, that is...
Must actually remember to update those now I've bought some new lenses...and actually use the profiles I've got saved...lol

I've got the manual out in front of me - there's a way of doing it and saving as a custom set, I'm sure of it...
You may have to do in Nikon Capture NX and upload it via your PC...

I think for uploading custom curve Gary will need a Camera Control Pro - Capture NX does not do it (it was long before a function of Nikon Capture - but was dropped in NX).

Yes, you can apply Picture Controls to RAW files in CaptureNX certainly!
So if you want Vivid (God help you, unless you are "that Nikon bloke with the website") you can apply it in one click.
You can build custom Picture Controls in ViewNX (yes, the freebie tool) and then apply them in CaptureNX. Or you could buy the expensive Camera Control Pro..... I'd use ViewNX :D

Sorry if this comes across as really dense....are you suggesting that by using a feature of ViewNX / or indeed Camera Control Pro, that I can get it 100% right in camera? Ie, before the file gets to Capture NX?
It's not a massive deal as I export to a slideshow using a batch in Capture NX....

You use the Picture Control editor that comes with ViewNX... and then you apply that Picture Control in CaptureNX as your starting point of your processing.
I added a link to my last post with some instructions...

No worries and ta. I'm trying to do this 100% processing free (other than the in camera processing) :D

It can be done in camera on a D3S but not sure about a D3
