I'm looking at buying the above lens. I've decided I cant really justify blowing the big money on the canons (17-40 f/4 or 17-55 which is even worse money  ).

Currently looking @ £259.99 + delivery from warehouse express, and I get it tomorrow that way  :woot:  .

Looking for people who have the lens to reassure that its the right one for that money (seems horrifyingly cheap for the spec.), and if anyone has a sneaky cheaper shop.

Ta.

[Edit] btw, do warehouse express include the hood or will that be a sneaky extra cost :suspect: ? It doesn't say on the site

The review I read in Amateur Photographer magazine rated this lens very highly, if that helps?

Thanks,

everything I have read over the last couple of days has said its great, so I figured I'd go ahead and buy one. I guess I should give everyone a bit more time next time I'm after advice :embarrassed: :coat:

Can't wait for it to come.

Bought one the other week, seems excellent. Use the search button at the top and you´ll find more threads and some of my test shots. dodgy though they are!

Thanks,

I did a search to start with and thought I'd checked most of them out, but I look now and there's a thread from about a week ago :embarrassed:

it can be had from www.onestop-digital.com for £216, a very reliable company from hong kong, only down side it will take 5 days for delivery, but if you don't mind waiting it's a reasonable saving, that price includes the delivery

I went with warehouse express in the end.

Placed the order at 3:50ish and didn't hear from them after the original 'thankyou for your order' email, so I figured I'd missed the next day delivery cut off.

Anyway, 6:30 this morning a nice courier man dropped off my lens into my barely awake hands.

Am I happy? You bet

I *think* this is the lens Jonny has.

If it is...while its a good lens....expect the AF noisy (well his is anyway).

Congrats on your purchase...:D Are you going to show us some shots? Get out and play! :D

yeah, the AF is noisy, but not too bad (about the same asmy 35mm).

I'll prob take it with me when i hand my dissertation in in an hour.

Unfortunately revision stops me from going out properly :'( but I've got a completely valid excuse that no-one can poke holes in at all:exit:

The lens looks nice *** from a quick examination

I got this lens earlier in the week and have had a little play round with it in my flat and my first impressions are that it's excellent - very sharp and with nice smooth bokeh. I can't even replicate the flash exposure problems that I'd read about so I'm a happy boy. The nikkor 50mm I also got this week does beat it for sharpness but then it is a prime and I don't think there can be a bad 50mm lens in existance such is the amount of development that this focal length has had.

It certainly feel like a well made lens, I'm looking forward to trying it out with some proper photography soon. Will let you all know how I get on with it.
