For some reason the sound has packed up on my PC, I think I've checked everything but to no avail.

Any ideas?

Do you have a speaker "system" that plugs into the mains and well as to the PC? If so perhaps the fuse has blown in that?

Nope, no external speakers, just the built in jobbies.

Have you checked the "sounds and audio devices setting in the "control panel"? Some times things like these mysteriously get reset, especially if you have kids about the place ;)

Built in as in your monitor Colin..

Cables connected correctly..
Device Manager nothing reported not working in there..
Try your speaker cable on another set of speakers if possible..

Failing all that stick a sound card in your tower for about a fiver...

could be driver issues. i've had one just stop working on me in the past. find your original cds and re-install the sound driver.

Windows update killed the sound on an old PC I use sometimes. Rollback driver in properties fixed it.

Not hit the 'mute' button? I've done that stacks of times.

Top man, I just re-installed the driver and everything is fine now.

Thanks Robert.

Bugger, every time I re-boot I lose sound, downloaded the updated drivers as well.

Oh well, new sound card I presume. ******* computers.

What happens to it. is it still installed when you reboot? Or does it mute it or something?

No idea, I re-install the driver and the sound works fine until I re-boot, then nada.

Are you installing it over the top of the old one? Maybe try and remove the driver completely, reboot and then install the new one?

try disabling in in device manager and then re-enabling it. My lappy does that all the time.
