Following on from my thread about what to do for the best. http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=21290
I wonder, those of you that print / process pics perhaps for sale do you crop to a certain size / ratio during your workflow? I've had a few comments about a white border on my pics :(
Perhaps you don't crop? If for example your taking pics at a show jumping event and there are loads of cars in the background or something do you leave them in, or crop to a standard size?
Thanks
Allan
I make crop sizes for what I will need Allan, and in photoshop when you use the crop tool you can make a new one.
I have them for eg: 12x8@300dpi like that.
as you drag it out across the photo you crop off what you dont want but it stays the same ratio!
If you think you may need another ratio later ie 8X10 its best left big and you can crop later to print but leave the original at 12x8
making sense??
In an ideal world it would be best to only offer print sizes that come up as the same ratio. 6x4, 12x8, 18x12 etc.

Not forgetting 9x6 :D
Yes, but Id written enough and couldnt be bothered......the list goes on and on!! :D
i crop using the crop tool set to front, and then i resize the image @350dpi to the size i want, then print....saving a full size version of course

everything i do gets cropped to 3:2 ratio as per proper photos, non of this new 6x4.5" ****.
ocasionally ill do a panoramic crop or a square crop, but thats only very rarely for a particular photo
I crop most things 3:2 as I prefer that aspect ratio, I would sometimes crop things in a 2:1 ratio which gives quite a nice panoramic look. Occasionally i do a square crop.
I just offer sizes which match the sensor ratio.
I just offer sizes which match the sensor ratio.
which in my case is 3:2!
I am lost, I have a few pics I would like to print so could anyone go through how :) For instance print an 8x10.

open up a photo straight from camera, allan, see if a 12x8 crop fits it..and if so its a 3:2 ratio!

If your pics already in that ratio Shorn you just upload it to whoever your using to print it and select a 6x4 or 9x6 or 12x8 etc.

all canons and nikons as far as im aware follow the standard 3:2 format as used by SLRfilm cameras etc. olympus goes for a crop that is like alot of other compacts etc which is slightly taller than a standard crop,
I think I have got it now :)
