Looking through a few I got at the weekend, here's one of the favourites. ALso got a link to the big version, any comments welcomed as usual :)

Its a good shot :) only thing i can think that would have imprved it, would be to get a little lower, and get the air under the bike, and maybe lose some of the jump ! :)

I like this angle as it shows the other riders in the background and so adds to the excitment of the race. if this had been shot from lower down you would have lost that element and had more sky as the bachdrop.

Nope, your opinion is valid. I just like it as is and you would prefer a different angle, thats why the world is so good, we all like different things. :D

Thanks Steve, that's the type of shot I was trying to get. Got a few more to sort through, might have one with the other riders a but closer which would possibly be better :).

They are all excellent ! horizons a bit squiffy though ? ;) ROFLMAO (sorry couldnt resist)

Yeah thats exaclty what i meant ! :) Can still see the bikes etc in the background too ! :)
First and last ones are really good, show the effect of speed ! I dont find the slopey horizons a problem on these ! I used to go Motocross because my friends used to compete, and know how quick they go ! :)

The two coming straight at you are spot on, I'm glad you've left space for the moto X'r to go into.
In the two panned shots (bike #199 & #6) you have caught the action well, but I think they need more space in front of the bikes.
When your shooting these try to remember your histogram. Most of these shots are slightly over exposed.
Ideally you want the mountain to be stacked slightly to the left of centre, without the right foot of it touching the right side of the screen. If it touches the right side, you will have blown the highlights, which cannot be recovered.
It only takes seconds to check, so don't forget. :wink:

Fair points, I always forget to check the histogram. One of the problems I always seem to find is how pictures look on different monitors. I'm at work right now and they look far lighter and washed out than they do on my home monitor.
Oh, and it's George, or dod as it gets shortened to up here ;) The Scottydod often confuses folk into calling me Scott though.

It is quite easily done not checking the histogram, especially when you get caught up in the excitement of an event.
I think we've all done it at some stage.

I like jumper2 and rider06 - in my youth (i.e. in about 1485) I used to often watch motocross at Thruxton and once saw the GB championship at Farley Mount, and these pics remind me of those times. Shame the smell of 2-stroke can't be captured! :D

I didn't relialise that you had added some more images to this thread till now :shock: I can only echo what everyone else has already said, they are all excellent, some are better than others but there is not a bad one in the bunch.
I am off to view the rest in your link now, thanks for showing them :D
After taking a look at your exif data above, I notice you haven't used any exposure compensation.
I tend to set the camera to -1/3 or -2/3 of a stop, then bring the exposure back on the PC.
Absolutely cracking shots - I thoroughly enjoyed them and any one of them would knock your eye out with the levels properly adjusted. I know I go on about it , but you need to just be seeing detail in the deepest shadow areas and ideally - the highlights not blown out - the age old exposure problem - and it's something which hasn't changed with digital, although there does seem to more expoure latitude with digital so it's rare that your shots can't be tweeked in PS. :wink:

nag, nag, nag ;) Thanks guys, I really do enjoy that type of stuff and appreciate the comments. This was one of the reasons I got the wideangle, I just felt some were a bit cramped in the frame.
