Could anyone recommend where to go in the Algarve for a villa holiday?

Our preference would be somewhere fairly close to a beach, photogenic area, away from anywhere that could be described as the "Blackpool" of Portugal. No more than 1½ hours from an airport would be good too :thumbs:

Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions

If driving be very careful, Portugal has the highest road death rate in Europe, these figures are 15 years old but I can't imagine it's improved much.

The following list of road deaths per 100,000 of population (OECD Figures 1995/96) is not for the faint hearted!

* Great Britain 6.7
* Australia 10
* Germany 12
* Ireland 12
* Italy 13
* Belgium 16
* Spain 16
* USA 16
* France 17
* Greece 20
* Portugal 33

I've been a few times and drove not too bad, just keep your wits about you! Away again soon.... gf's parents villa just finished!:D We've stayed in a few nr St Barbara de Nexe, 20min from the airport, 30-45 from beachs. If your willing to drive really nice and quiet.

Stay clear of Vilamoura/Quartera (sp). Ok for a day jaunt but nowt much to do there.

For photos, try some of the old town area of Faro, off the beaten track.
