The boss (read girlfriend) has given me permission to buy a new lense :woot:

What should I get? I currently have Sig 55-200mm and the kit lense. Could do with 2 suggestions, as going to try and wangle 2 outta her :D

£300-400 tops

Cheers

Cheers for pointing that out :D

Mainly landscape photography, or general purpose lense.

If it's landscapes you're after, can't go wrong with a 17-40L :)

17-40L is a cracking lens but for some reason this year it's not part of the canon cashback offer  which is a shame because it brought the price down to about £350. You're probably looking at over £400 for it now.

The other one to look at is the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 which is cheaper but reviews say of a similar quality to the 17-40L. There was a recent thread about it here (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22054) if that helps.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 to replace your kit lens I reckon. Cracking bit of glass apparently - Ive read some very favourable reviews. I think the only draw back is the slightly noisy AF.

Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 would get my vote - crackingly sharp piece of kit - mine is rarely off the camera when we're out and about. Well within your budget too!

Have fun choosing!

The 10-20 is alot less than 300 :)

All suggestions are sounding good, maybe a sigma, 10-20mm. How versatile would it be compared to say a 24-70mm (ish) lense?

Very tempted by the 17-40L, will have to go window shopping and have a play.
