This was mentioned somewhere else. Hope someone can shed more light on his work. Really is good stuff - some of the behind the scenes videos are very interesting too!

Its like a blend between HDR and something else. Not really sure.

They almost have a cartoon look to them, very good though

Click behind the scenes to see the effort that he takes.

Have followed Mr Hill for some time and thought Pete would nail this for sure. Two observations I have made. One is obvious use of HDR other is absolute detail achieved in lighting and composition.

I guess his lighting set-up is slightly different to a normal portrait tog but basics must be similar (ie highlights in same place but ratios better for PP/hdr work).

He is becoming a bit of a cult figure on the forums/flickr/etc.

I'm not sure. I'm torn between "Dude awesome" and "OMG too far!" Maybe I'm tired :D

Good effort! I like it but that post box (being red and all) is distracting. Either that or I lose interest when looking at BMWs :p

:D

Hi Alex
Love the effect and I did not spot the post box. A long time ago, and I do mean a long time, someone told me there should always be some red in a shot so not a prob. Anyway can you give me guide as to how?
Thanks
Chris

I use corel XI, and used most of the functions PS seems not to have, but i'll give you a rough idea of what i did.

1.Took the original image, and made a -2 and +2 exposure, and compiled an HDR using photomatrix.

2.Mess around in tone mapping, and with light smoothing on pretty high.

3.Opened the HDR in corel XI, used the selection tool on circle mode, with a feather of 200, and circled the car, inverted the selection so everything outside the car was selected and lowered the levels to create a subtle fake vignetting.

4. I then used the clarify tool (LOVE THIS), which is similar to the effect that HDR makes. It emphasizes shadows, bringing out detail which you can see in the windows.

5. Then did a high pass sharpening, not entirely sure what this does, i know it sharpens the photo, but i got a feeling it also adds more contrast to small shadows while not effecting anything else.

6. Used a warming filter to give it some colour.

7. Resized and added a border.
