£1949 was on the list I got from kerso last week, it might of changed a bit now though. CPB have lowest at £2189 so can't see them been cheaper then Ian.

Kerso did me an amazing price back in March :notworthy:

That with next day delivery = buy from him!

Is there much difference between the Mk I and Mk II for the price difference?

the mark I is quite a bit softer wide open, iirc.

The MkII is absolutely fantastic. It's got fluorite. Extensive reviews have been published on the-digital-picture.com and dpreview.com.

The MkI is no slouch for sure, but I think the big benefit of the new one is that it takes even a 2x extender very well. So if you look at it as a 70-400mm f/2.8-5.6 zoom, it becomes something of a bargain

Canon recently issued a press release saying that it was in short supply due to unexpected demand, and that they were upping production.

The MkII is obviously a little better all round but the main difference is 200mm wide open, where the MkII is noticably sharper.

If you can afford the MkII then go for it - whether it's worth the extra over the MkI is debatable as it's basically twice the price of a good used MkI.
