I need a 70-300 lens for my D5000. Already have the same focal length for my Canon, and I've found I just can't live with the 55-200. It is superbly sharp, just too short. I can't afford the awesome Nikon 70-300 AFS, so need some suggestions. Must be fairly good AF, and don't mind other makes.

Thanks

Keep an eye open on ebay for the Nikon......yes, they are going to be more expensive than the Indy brands like Tamron or Sigma.....but well worth saving the pennies for. A decent second hand one should be around the £300 mark.
Otherwise the the Sigma seems to be the preferred choice, however there was a post earlier on here somewhere by '18-270' and the pics from the Tamron equivalent looked quite good too.

EDIT: Found the thread mentioned above!

I have the Tamron 70-300, its an ok lens but in low light it's a struggle, I do alot of indoor basketball and unless you are real lucky or got some great lights, not too many keepers. outside I have found no probs but not used much outdoors, :D
