I lost my confidence in any optical drives long time ago. I doubt Bluray will be any more reliable than the typical CD/DVD and there is also cost and compatibility issue with Apple (they won't support it). 2x Hard drives at different locations make more sense.
I just checked out some of my CD and DVD back-ups from about 8 years ago and over 70% of the images won't even open now...
Going to just keep buying more hard-drives instead...
blu-ray is supposedly longer lasting due to different construction, 50 years is being stated but obviously tests involving accelerated aging can be a little hit and miss.

I've got CD's from the late 90's and DVD's going back to around 2002 that still read fine.
I've never suffered data loss from optical disks but then my days in the industry made me aware to steer clear of the cheap lesser know brands.
If it wasn't for the cost the media I would invest in a blu-ray burner, I could probably reduce my back ups by about 3/4.
