I am looking for a sigma 70 - 300mm lens and would like to know where is the best place to buy and and what the best price for one is?

The cheapest i have found new is £90 delivered.

Cheers

Ross

this isn't what you want to hear Ross but save a bit more and go for the APO version, it's worth the difference :)

£90 sounds like a good price for that lens.

However, if you can stretch to the APO version its is a much better lens. Both are good for the money though.

There is also the 70-300 Nikkor G lens to consider? Possibly better than the non-APO Sigma.

I thought i would get that answer. The apo is about £30 more i think which i can't stretch to just now but would rather get another lens now than have to wait as i have planned to do some wildlife photography over the summer when i am back home on the island of mull and the kit 18 - 55mm lens just does not let me get close enough.

Aye, fair enough :) £90 is about as cheap as you're going to get it, good price :)

Taken with non APO version, ignore the big ©, copied from from my website. The difference is negligible to my eyes.

Thank you everyone for your help. Would i be better off buying the sigma lens brand new at £90 or a Nikon AF 70-300mm lens second hand at £69?

Is the Nikon better or worse than the sigma?

Im not really sure, but I think I would go with the Nikkor.

Assuming the Nikon used one is the G lens (?) fyi you can buy this new at onestop-digital for £69 - also the APO Sigma can be had there for £115 - I'd opt for the Sigma having had both at one time or the new Nikon G ahead of the new non-APO Sigma (does that make sense?)

Have you had any problems with getting items from onestop - digital as they ship their items from Hong Kong?

I've "sinned" with One-Stop many times :embarrassed: - Something like this would come via HK Post & Royal Mail so no customs malarkey - more expensive goods come via FedEx or DHL & once I was charged Duty & Handling but (as One-Stop promise) I sent them the invoice & was reimbursed in full - The only issue as I see it with them (or any purchase o/s the UK) is Warranty if the kit goes its tup - most kits has an "International Warranty" but some manufacturers are less keen to help with something bought o/s the UK and you might end up sending it back to HK - IMHO if you were spending 3 or 4 hundred quid it might be an issue but that's your decision obviously ...

I have been contacted with the offer of a second hand mint condition sigma 70-300 APO F4.5-5.6II with UV filter, what would you say the value of this lens is?

Thanks again

Anyone else going to add there thoughts on what a second hand lens is worth?

I'd say Joe was about right although you might get one a bit cheaper on 3Bay but there's always a risk you might get a dud there - 2nd hand shop price is around £120 so if the one you have been offered is from someone you know I'd take it at the £90-£100 mark ... Paul ;)
