Today was the last day of brewing at Newcastle's historic Tyne Brewery - the home of the famous Newcastle Brown Ale. Brewing has now moved a few miles away to the former Northern Clubs Federation Brewery in Gateshead where it's claimed that the beer will be replicated perfectly. Some say it's sacrilege and I can't argue with that myself. Some pictures from earlier today, complete with duff sky.

Ah but! it's only been brewed in Newcastle for 119 years! before that it was 114 years in Gateshead so in reality it's going home :D

I remember getting hammered on that stuff on a camping trip when I was well under legal drinking age. It probably didn't help being mixed with barley wine. 'Ill' does not begin to describe how I felt for two or three days. :(

Experience never comes cheap. [smilie=h:

The Gateshead brewery that was the original founding part of The Newcastle Breweries was John Barras & Co so they're being a little disingenious to really suggest that Newcastle Breweries is going "home" :). Newcastle Brown Ale has only ever been brewed at the Tyne Brewery, since 1927.
