So my original shots when processed turned out to be over processed and annoyingly ugly.

I'm slowly going over them and trying again.

I like the second more than the first. The first to me seems overly soft - though i'm not sure if that was your intention or not.

I missed your first ones so I can't compare.

I thnk the softness is due to the flickr uploader automatically resizing 1000px to 800px without doing so properly

It needs context or it is just people in a street. You can at least guess the motive for the demo in second shot. I'll leave comment on the quality to people that actually like mono ;)
