View Full Version : Wind turbines
Went up to the wind turbines tonight to try and get some sunset shots. I left it a little late and a huge bank of clouds rolled in just as a I arrived - so no sunset, but some moody skies instead. Will have to go back up there once the wheat has grown higher, I'm sure it'll look amazing.
The noise these things make is fanatastic, especially when you're stood right beneath them.
EDIT: Have updated with a recropped version of the first shot, added a non-silhouette version for good measure, and moved the third shot from further down the thread.

I really like the 1st - excellent shot IMO & well worth getting up early for  Have you tried a landscape crop or flipping the image horizontally? Would be interested to see the results of that if you get chance
Sorry, the 2nd does nothing for me - I think its the motion blur on the closest turbine
Thanks. The first I may well have a landscape version of, I'll have a dig through the RAWs again tomorrow.
I think I'll probably revisit the second one, there's definately room for improvement - not sure I took one fast enough to lose the motion blur, but there's one with more blur which might work better.

I love the 2nd one, where are these?

As moomike says, the first one is the better of the two. I think a landscape one with the same effect would work better, or a bit more sky at the top. at the moment it's just a bit too black! Very cool shot though :)

These are the ones at Carland Cross roundabout - right above the A30 near Truro looking out across Newquay. If you approach the rounadabout from the west there's a tiny track off the roundabout that takes you up to them.

Image moved to first post

That first one could be killer if it wasn't weighed down by all the black at the bottom. I like the colours in the second but I don't know it is just missing something.
The last one is so different it's actually good.

the last one is great, really like the strong colours. The first one has far too much black in the foreground it detracts from the sky and the turbine. I'm fairly neutral on the 2nd one.
As others have already said, the first one would be really nice if the ground was just a thin amount along the bottom. I am not sure what you are trying to say with such a large amount of black space, but it overpowers the image for me, which is in the dramatic sky and the turbine standing alone facing it.
Michael.
Seems to be a pretty strong consensus on these. I'll try a different crop/version of the first one tonight - I quite liked the huge blacked-out area, but I can appreciate people are finding it distracting.
I really need to work on my processing decisions... I always end up going back to shots 4 or 5 times before I get them right.

That's part of the game Tom :) practice makes perfect!
Just starting to realise how many members are from Kernow!
Cornwall Members Meet in the summer anyone?

Yeah I guess we should organise a meet sometime - once the BBQ weather returns! I expect we could entice one or two northeners down with the offer of salmonella-and-sand sausages :p

Sounds like a good idea, except the sausages :gag:

Like the last edit, but the 1st seem to be too dull for me, would like to see more of the White of the turbine against the mean and moody sky, but still a cracking picture
