After this (http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=22449) thread and ordering the Luxi F which was promptly discontinued. And the inability of me to find any of the other tripods for sale:gag: I have decided to spend way more than I wanted to on a tripod.

First let me tell you what I am after, the tripod and head need to fit these criteria as closely as possible:

Be as light as possible, I don't have a car so will be carrying/cycling with it every time I want to use it.
Be as small as possible when folded up, for the same reason above.
Be tall enough for a 6'2 bloke to use it without too much difficulty.
Be reasonably sturdy.

Use of the tripod will include general photography, panoramas and macro.

So back to the tripod, I dont want to spend much over £100 for both.
The tripod I think I will get is the Manfrotto 190XProB for £90. I came across the 190XB which it seems is the same as the Pro except the centre column doesnt go horizontal. Would this mean it would be more stable with the column at it's longest reach and is this a better bet?

Head wise I have no clue really. I like the idea of a ball head for macro but want to do panoramas as well which seems to be out with ball heads. So I was wondering about a 3-way head instead (and maybe getting a ball head to suppliment it when I have more money). Manfrotto heads that fit this criteria seem to be the 390RC and the 804RC2. Which would be a better bet (if either)?

So any suggestions or opinions?:)

For macro work using the centre post horizontally is a bonus.
Ball head is the way to go, they are quicker to set up than a three way.

You can get ball heads with a separate pan function. :)

Yes you can, my Kirk BH-1 has a pan base so can do panning, i think it will be the more expensive heads that have it butnot limited to only those though.

That was way over the budget I am going for I think unfortunatly. I only really want to spend £50 MAX on the head.:)

The Manfrotto 488RC2 ball head has a separate panning control. Although cheaper than the Kirk head, it is still over your budget at about £60. Maybe you can find a second hand one though?

If you are 6'2", you may well prefer the 055 rather than the 190. :)

Just got one of these in auction for US$7.50 plus US$63.90 and this equates to £36.90 for a pro spec tripod.

It is unbeatable.

I am always a bit sceptical about things like that. How can it be reduced so much in price without them making a huge loss?

Are there any reviews on the tripod?

I found this review.

Lots of people buy this tripod for the price, but there's no way it's a serious professional tripod - you get what you pay for. That's not to say it isn't a useable pod, but compared to a Manfrotto etc with similar features it will be found wanting. ;)

What is the 055D like? That eems to come in cheaper than the 190xpro. Price wise I think I may force myself to go for what is better but I still have issues with the packed length and weight of the 055 pods. I think I am going to have to find somewhere to try them out for height and weight and then go from there.

055 ProB and the 488RC2
or

Hi,

I don't want to turn this thread into sales corner, so PM or email me if you are interested.

We discussed this tripod a couple of weeks ago, the Giottos Innovator:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=001&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=110116045278&rd=1&rd=1

It has an horizontal column.

I bought this two weeks ago, and it's still new/unused.

I've decided that I prefer my old Kennet Mk1, so if you want it, you can have it for £90 delivered, which is substantially less than I paid.
