View Full Version : The Back Streets
http://www.vanilladays.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/05/img_0675-edit.jpg
Taken around Greenland Street in Liverpool. The light was all over the shop so I had to HDR it to bring out some foreground detail, and the detail in the sky. In other news it seems that Flickr are saying sorry (http://www.flickr.com/help/forum/40074/page3/#reply213196) for deleting rebekka’s (http://www.flickr.com/photos/rebba/) post. I can fully understand their reasoning because the comments did get way way out of hand, including death threats to the company. Hopefully Flickr will learn from this and edit comments as they should have done. A simple deletion of the stupid posts with a note would have worked. Forum like moderation.
HDR from a single RAW // Camera: Canon 30D // Lens: Sigma 24-70 // Focal Length: 24.0mm // Exposure Time: 1/125 // Aperture: f/5.6 // ISO: 100

A gritty shot indeed!
Burlesque :p
 :naughty:  ... I so hope youre going to show us the results Pete!
Maybe :D Muhahahaha. Its good that you think its gritty. Its the exact style I'm going for with this shoot tomorrow. So I know I can get the look, its just a case of getting the poses.

awesome shot! Great processing to lead to fantastic sky!
Great HDR pete, very gritty and 'raw' - reminds me of similar places in my old haunts round manchester.
Question - how effective is HDR on nght time shots? Anyone tried it? Does the light limitation of after dark make finding the right images to use all that much more difficult?
I haven't really tried it. I've seen some fantastic results but whenever I do HDR images with man made light they're rubbish.

Cool - you have a knack of getting pool shots that even people who know the place can't (don't) get. Nice work

Dumb question - what it HDR ?
Great picture !
Nice shot pete, I like the deserted impression that the image gives, also the processing..a cool shot.
Liking this one Pete. I couldn't see the shot in anything other than mono. Much Dodge and burn or is the treatment all from the HDR conversion?

Admittedly I've driven past this point loads of times. This time I was specifically looking for angles for this shoot I'm doing which is why I spotted this.

HDR is a way of merging 3 exposures together to get one with more detail than a single photo. The original image had flat dull clouds and some foreground detail but not much. Read my HDR guide (http://www.vanilladays.com/hdr-guide).

There is some D&B because Photomatix made one area of the shot vastly brighter than the rest so I had to tweak that bit. Not sure why it did that.

Cheeers Petemc - am just about to read it !
i like that pete, be interested to see the shots with a model in too...
Is it me, or is there just a *little* haloing going on around the roof lines? Sorry, I'm being a bit pedantic I know, but you being who you are Pete, we're bound to scrutinise your work for the merest of imperfections (even if it's for no other reason than to make us mere mortals feel better about our photography(!))
Nice composition, and as Matty says, would look great for a modelling shoot ;)

There is a touch on the left yeah. I don't think its too big an issue personally, ie I cba fixing it ;) As for the model shoot we had to reschedule. Hopefully soon :) Funnily enough I was passing this area last night and I did see a guy doing some portraits round there.
