Hi all,

I took this shot to add to my collection of "work" related pics.
New compact camera and very little experience of photography in general, so i could do with some help :)
Quite pleased with this one, though no doubt could be better.

Thanks for your help.

Not bad.

- Could do with a dark/black background.
- DOF towards the back of the ring is not quite enough

I would have thought jewellery would be better in colour?

That's what I was thinking but as me and mono don't mix I thought it and moved on earlier :)

What is the subject in this shot? the measure is in good focus and the ring mostly isn't

I think it's a ring slid onto one of those size measuring wotsits. :)

That's my first thought too. The rings the most interesting bit but the sharpest focus is on the wotsit.

Hi,

The background was in fact black, thats light from a window causing the lightness.
Ring should be the "main" subject, though i tried to get abit of both ring a measuring thingy in focus to make it abit more interesting.Maybe the DOF set differently would have made a difference...

As for the colour, the idea is to show more detail of how the stones are being set (partly done job) , and in colour it gets abit distracting.

sorry Chris I find the black and white ok and understand the reason for it, but my eye draws to the ruler not to the ring.

I feel the shot is cropped too tight for my liking and think if the ring had been the other way on then we might have seen more of the stones.
